Job Purpose:

The Project Manager is directly responsible to the Country Manager and for the safe, efficient and cost-effective execution of all project and engineering call-off activities as well as acting as the client focal point for day-to-day operations.The Project Manager must shape the strategy and development for a growing project department.The extent the department will expand is dependent on the outcome of an ongoing tender process, where Project Manager has bid to become BP Azerbaijan’s outright IMR Contractor, taking accountability for all survey, diving, as well as subsea project and engineering execution – the Project Manager would be the focal point for this.Project Manager will cover for Country Manager when away. 


  • Focal point for day-to-day operational client communications. 
  • Key shore-based point of contact / guidance for Offshore Manager and project / subsea teams. 
  • Delegate tasks to onshore and offshore project teams in order to meet Company and Client expectations.
  • Coordinate between onshore project teams in Baku and Bergen. Liaison can occur with the following departments: Crewing, ROV, Vessel Technical, HSEQ, ROV, Finance, Payroll, Engineering, Administration, Logistics, Document Control, IT, Legal, Purchasing and HR.  
  • Coordinate between vessel and internal project teams through the following phases (in order): Scope of Work review and resource estimation; cost-time-resource (CTR) submission to/negotiation with client; procedure development and project mobilisation / execution planning; project kick-off meeting and execution; through to lessons learned and corrective action implementation.  
  • Source incremental external / internal resources and competence as required for projects
  •  Ensure that all project related work progress occurs according to established Company and Client project workflow requirements, procedures and schedules. 
  • Monitor and drive progress in planning and operations throughout project, intervening where required to ensure milestones are met.
  • Ensure relevant laws and industry standards are followed during projects.
  • Monitor and where required write daily field and operations/progress reports.
  • Participate in weekly IMR meetings and daily morning conference call with the internal and external project team. 
  • Ensure good communications between shore and vessel, and develop solutions for operational / personnel issues where required. 
  •  Drive effective subcontractor management according to Company systems
  • Ensure a proper project and contract familiarisation for project team (onshore and offshore)
  • Accountable for Risk/HSEQ management throughout project, monitoring and assisting project team as required. Project Manager will be closely supported by HSEQ Supervisor. 
  • Ensure preparation and implementation of Project HSEQ plans, procedures, HAZIDs, TRAs etc. Verify that documentation is properly coordinated and understood between onshore, offshore and client personnel. Attend TRAs and Lessons Learned with the client as required.
  • Actively participate in HSEQ meetings and programs, including self-verification oversight / safety leadership visits to the vessel. Develop safety initiatives in cooperation with HSEQ Supervisor and Country Manager. 
  • Encourage and verify that project team actively engages with and reports in the company HSEQ system e.g. Non-conformance, MoC, Safety Observation, Near Miss etc.
  • Act as an active team member in incident investigations and support associated corrective action implementation where relevant.
  • Coordinate with accounts department to ensure timely invoicing of projects and monthly charter hire invoices.
  • Report and justify cost variances against project budgets (CTRs) to client.
  • Drive effective cost control through the project team, negotiating with and performance managing sub-contractors / suppliers where necessary.
  • Develop Value of Work Done project finance estimations to feed into client and Company forecasting.
  • Support Country Manager in bidding for new projects and contracts with existing client, and in expanding client base in the Caspian region.

  • Bachelor or Master degree in an engineering discipline preferred
  • Relevant work experience from the subsea industry may compensate for the lack of formal education
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience from the subsea industry 
  • Offshore Manager / ROV / Survey background preferred
  • Knowledge of UNISEA or similar electronic HSEQ management system preferred
  • Fluent oral and written English language.
